The Second International Conference on the Future of the Book

A Qualitative Study Of eBook Digital Rights Management

Kelvin Bong.

The first part will discuss issues relating to DRM including the definition, which is a term used to describe a range of techniques that use information about rights and rights holders to manage copyright material (as in this case, eBook) and the terms and conditions on which it is made available to users. Then, a number of published articles that have addressed the pitfalls of the DRM will be elaborated. Some claims that DRM solutions are irrelevant. According to one author in his writing, an interview with a leading e-book service company, DRM can be summed up in one sentence: “Use as little of it as possible. Even pretty good DRM needs to get better". Technology turns off buyers when it makes the purchase difficult. Users have definite expectations about using, printing, and copying digital content. These expectations need to be studied so that content providers can take a longer view and create a market solution that makes the product as easy to use as possible.
